What am I like as a "fan"? What sort of character dynamics do I enjoy?

I personally dislike overreliance on tropes, though they are necessary in any story. I am also not really appealed to stories just based on them having xyz trope within in 99% of cases, which I know draws many people, but I just can't relate...

My tastes can be a bit unpredictable since I'm mostly willing to try anything, but regardless, I still have some "types" when it comes to fiction and these are mostly down to relationship dynamics.

I only like BL and GL. I'm just not interested in hetero romance and especially not interested in hetero sex, sorry. With GL I'm also extremely picky (will not even glance at GL unless a woman wrote it, but even then...), so most of what I like is BL/yaoi.

Why am I picky with GL? I am a lesbian in da real world, a dysphoric butch lesbian twink guy, and I like other butches, androgynous women, and similar. I'm not typically attracted to feminine women. Most yuri features rather feminine women and for some reason I just can't really sink my teeth into it the same way I can with BL, where it's often very easy to imagine both characters as androgynous women and/or butches.

I do not project myself onto fiction I enjoy, though; I prefer to be what is, in essence, a voyeur lol. I do not think I'm especially interesting or important, so I don't feel any need to see myself in whatever I'm engaging with.

fujoshi's island

I prefer to call myself a fudanshi, but either way... I love yaoi and BL, and I always have since I was pretty young.

"Yaoi" and "BL" meaning, to me, 2D or derivative works that feature M/M romantic and/or sexual relationships, or shipping relating to such. These works are mostly East Asian in origin, but I also include Western/etc creators who are explicitly inspired by and following this same spirit within their works. This is not a term I apply to real life men, nor to the majority of Western/etc media (which I just refer to as "slash").

I'm not always strict about it, but I do generally prefer fixed top and bottom dynamics in most BL/yaoi pairs I like. I will not be weird to anyone about this because this is stupid, but I also dislike it if you're weird to those of us who prefer fixed dynamics in fiction...

Through communicating with other fujin, I've learned that my uke preferences are apparently kind of strange! Many of my peers read much more standalone BL than I do, so for most of my life I had no idea this wasn't really a common thing, and many people even really dislike uke that I prefer. The yandere uke is, sadly (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), quite a rare delicacy in the world of yaoi.

In much of the BL/yaoi I've read (especially older ones), it's very common to depict the uke as unwilling or even outright assaulted by the seme, and this is a complete turn-off for me and likely why I often did not read much standalone growing up. For me, it's only hot if the uke is super into it, or if he's the one dubconning the seme, so you can see where a bit of alienation has existed for me as a fujo lol.

the ideal seme

My seme preferences are a bit more broad. Since I strongly prefer seme POV, I can enjoy a pretty wide range of seme types. Generally though, I love a seme who is brooding, tall, dark, handsome, and such. I like him to be a sad boy to be cheered up by my evil, happy uke. I looove tsundere seme with my type of uke especially, it's very yummy... I almost always prefer an introvert seme who trends gloomy, though. Not into golden retriever tops, sorry.

Though I prefer a more dominant uke, I don't prefer a submissive seme (especially not sexually). I like if they have a bit of a push-and-pull dynamic. Where I prefer the submission of a seme is in his attitude towards the uke, though, where he will give in to him easily. This is excellent.

Though I'm not the biggest fan of catboys, between the seme and the uke, I prefer if the seme has the more "cat-like" personality by a huge margin.
